The phpBB group have released the newest version of phpBB3, 3.0.6. This update not only brings a range of bugfixes and security improvements to the software but plenty of new features moved forward from the planned 3.1 release. The downside of this for styles is that there are plenty of updates to be made to get styles working in the latest version.

Among the new features, highlights include a barebones quick reply, ATOM feeds for forums, enhanced support for cache plugins, a new CAPTCHA plugin system and the ability for users to report private messages.

A full list of changes since 3.0.5 can be found in the official release announcement over on the phpBB website.

As for styles, phpBB 3.0.5 will work on phpBB 3.0.6 installations however you won’t get any of the new features and you can only use the default CAPTCHAs.

If you want to update a style yourself you can down the style changes since 3.0.5 here.

We’ve been busy updating the styles on the site and already have over 50 styles ready for 3.0.6. You view only phpBB 3.0.6 styles by using either the dropdown menu on the style pages or the Demo Options button on the style demo.
